WebCT Student Presentation Tool
The Student Presentation Tool offers a great way to collaborate with your classmates. If you have a group project or presentation, this tool simplifies the communication and exchange of ideas and files with members of your group.
When you click on the Student Presentations icon, you will see something like the following:
On the left-hand side of this screen are the names of the Groups. Each group has a short description under Project and a column for Mail. There is also a column for Group Members, which displays the names of all the members of a particular group when you click on the Group Name. In the example above, Group 01 has been selected, whose members are shown in the right-hand side of the screen.
You might have noticed that Group 01 has an additional link called Edit Files. This link only appears in the Group to which you are assigned. If you were assigned to Group 01, then the Edit Files link would appear in Group 01. If you were assigned to another group, then Edit Files would appear under that group name. Only group members can edit files for their group. In other words, you are not allowed to edit the files of other groups.
The Edit Files link lets you share files with your group. You can upload and download files, images, web pages, spreadsheets, powerpoint presentations and just about any other kind of document.
When you click on Edit Files, a screen like this appears:
This page allows you to manage files for your group. Note three important areas: 1) File Options, where you can upload files or create new ones (which you will not want to do, trust me, the WebCT editor is useless); 2) the File Options drop-down menu, where you can edit, delete, move, copy, zip or perform other useful file functions; and 3) the Folder Options drop-down menu, which lets you create folders just like on your PC.
If you have a number of files that you would like to share with your group, you will want to ZIP (compress) your files. File zipping puts many files into one file that makes uploading to WebCT much easier, since you can only upload one file at a time in WebCT. A very useful utility that lets you zip files is WinZip, which you can find at http://www.winzip.com.
